365/214 Faster

mmmm, the First of August 2012.. don't the years just seem to fly by 'faster' these days!

But top marks and impossible to go without a mention.. our local girl Helen Glover won our first Gold Medal today for going 'fastest' with her partner in the ladies rowing.. brilliant and just so good to be able to say they won the first gold for us in the year the Olympics were here..

(Helen is about two weeks older than my eldest and I think they did a few terms in the same class at Primary School. Her folks own a superb olde style ice cream shop in Newlyn and her Dad was a rugby star in his day!  And if I recall her Mum was pretty sporty at school too..)

...ahh well can see now that it has to be in the blood and despite Col having done the odd marathon and rally navigating in his day I don't think we have the correct gene pool for creating sporting heroes and even if he did I have well and truly balanced it out, being the only tall girl who didn't get picked for netball at school!

Kate has loved gym and dance and this week has been to the circus twice, coming home both times wondering how she should go about 'joining the circus'!! (and every time a chorus from Barnum lights up in my head and I want to sing.. never been a musical fan but that one did grasp me somehow.. did you ever see it?)

So in tribute to Helen, here's a lovely statue to Lost Fishermen which stands in her home village of Newlyn..always good to see something from home!

  1. the only sport in this house is football and I have little to do with that either :) What would your daughter want to do inparticular at the circus? Evie would love to go dancing too but at the moment we do rainbows and swimming.
